Work for Us
Our mission: Produce great journalism, train great journalists.
While the main mission of LA Reported will be to produce the next generation of great Los Angeles journalism, there will also be a second, complementary mission: training the next generation of great American journalists.
A key part of our model is to produce high-quality, high-impact, fun-to-read stories by pairing experienced editors—who learned their trade at publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair and Forbes—with reporters who are earlier in their career.
We will begin staffing up in May of 2025 and continuing to add staff over the following year. These are the job descriptions.
Editors: We plan to tap into one of America’s hidden journalism resources: the large number of editors who spent their careers working at publications that specialized in narrative storytelling. We are building up a nationwide stable of editors who are interested in a job that allows them to pass along their skills to a new generation of journalists while working on flexible schedules that fit their particular schedule.
Fulltime reporters: Unlike editors, reporters must be located in Los Angeles and work out of our Culver City office—when they are not out in the field reporting.
Freelance reporters: We welcome story pitches from freelance reporters, who will be matched with experienced editors. We will both pay more and demand more than typical online news outlets
Interns: We will hire both summer interns and interns who work during the school year. (Some will be in college, some recent graduates or otherwise just beginning their journalism careers.) Interns will work on their own stories, as well as assisting full-time reporters with reporting and fact-checking. In general, interns will be expected to work out of the office.
