Our Founders & Staff

Scott Woolley
Founder, Editor-in-Chief
Scott Woolley spent most of his career at Forbes Magazine, as a reporter, editor and West Coast bureau chief. He has written for The Wall Street Journal, Slate and Fortune; his biography of David Sarnoff, The Network: The Battle for the Airwaves and the Birth of the Communications Age, was published by HarperCollins. He is now a board member of Voice of San Diego. Scott will serve as L.A. Reported’s editor-in-chief.

David Dreier
Founder
David was chairman of the Tribune Publishing Company and a member of Congress for 32 years, including a decade as chairman of the House Rules Committee. He is a distinguished fellow at the Brookings Institution, a trustee of Claremont McKenna College and Caltech and is founder and chairman of the Fallen Journalists Memorial Foundation. He oversees our politically diverse board of advisors and is a part-time copy editor.

Karin Klein
Inaugural Editor
Karin worked for the Los Angeles Times for 35 years, most recently as an editorial board member covering education, health and science. She is the author of two books, most recently Rethinking College: A Guide to Thriving Without a Degree, published by HarperCollins in 2024. As our Inaugural Editor, Karin will help shape LA Reported’s new editorial model, with its focus on deeply-reported, tightly-edited and fun-to-read stories.
