LA Reported will cover stories in Los Angeles County. We will focus on a developing expertise in a narrow range of beats—including housing affordability, transportation and public safety—but will always be open to covering quirky stories about interesting characters.

LA Reported will begin hiring in the spring of 2025, begin reporting and writing stories in May and begin publishing in August.  The goal of this launch schedule is to build up a stockpile of stories, including some major investigative pieces,  so that we can make a splash when we begin publishing.

Scott Woolley spent most of his career at Forbes Magazine, as a reporter, editor and LA bureau chief. He has written for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Slate and Fortune, and is now a board member of Voice of San Diego.  Scott will serve as LA Reported’s  founding editor in chief.

David Dreier was the chairman of the Tribune Publishing Company, a senior member of Congress, and is now the chairman of the Fallen Journalists Memorial.  David will oversee LA Reported’s politically diverse board of advisors.

Rick Reiff  is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, editor at large of the Orange County Business Journal and a host and producer of public affairs programs. He is a four-time Golden Mike winner, three-time Emmy nominee and recipient in 2018 of the Orange County Press Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Rick will serve on LA Reported’s board of directors.

Peter Beller has worked on both the editorial and business side of different publications, including eight years as the CFO of Embarcadero Media.  Peter has graduate degrees in both journalism and business administration, and taught a graduate seminar on digital business models at USC’s Annenberg School.  He will serve on LA Reported’s board of directors.
